Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. self-titled

This album was among the tops back in the year it came out. It made a bunch of lists as the top of the year and signaled the giant sea change that was embodied in blog coverage of the indie music scene. In a lot of ways, the success of this band was the thing that proved music blogs had an influence on the kinds of music that people liked.

That doesn't really say much about the record itself. I guess I should just say it's great. It does a lot of stuff with indie guitar music that hadn't really been done yet. Like, that sot of dance-skiffle that is relatively common nowadays started here. But I also recently listened to this Pavement record, and all I can really think is how all of these indie guitar rock bands are all basically doing slightly evolved versions of Pavement.

In this case, the somewhat melodic, somewhat strained, slightly faster version of basically all of guitar indie rock and indie pop works. It works fantastically well, in fact. It's not life-changing, but it's fun as hell, and I enjoyed it this time as much as I did the first time way back 5 years ago.
